Moving forward when things get tough

This is exactly how it works in sales, too.

Sometimes you need to ease off a bit. But never give up.

I took a fall while skiing in January, and I’ve been dealing with a shoulder injury ever since. Because of that, I haven’t been able to box for three months. And before that, I was already dealing with tennis elbow. All in all, that’s six months out of the ring.

Today I stopped by to see my coworkers. Just to reconnect with that team spirit again—the energy, the drive, the desire to get better together. It was great to see everyone back in full swing.

In the meantime, I’m looking ahead. In October, I’ll be running the marathon for the Autism Fund with the team. I’m currently training once or twice a week. So despite my injury, I’m still staying active.

And actually, this is exactly how it works in sales, too.

Sometimes things just don’t go your way. In those moments, it’s okay to take a step back. But don’t stand still. Shift your focus. Is cold calling not working for you right now? Try LinkedIn. Find a different approach. Different energy, same goal.

In fact, this is where leadership begins. It’s not just about continuing to perform when things are going well, but about adapting when the going gets tough—for yourself and for the team. Because your energy often makes more of a difference than you realize.

So yes, sometimes you need to ease off a bit. But never give up.
