We are much more spoiled than we think.

We haven’t even been back from the jungle for a full day and we’re already going to the sauna, jumping into the pool, having a big meal, watching football on a big screen and drinking a beer.

While the jungle was beautiful.

Primitive. Traditional. Authentic. One with nature. No modern facilities at all.

For five days, we lived the life of the Saramaccan people in Goddo, deep in the interior of Suriname.

Google Maps doesn’t know the route. Everything there revolves around the river, the jungle and the community.

And honestly? We loved it.

We didn’t miss the shower. Bathing in the river is actually much more fun.

“Shall we go bathe?”

Yes. Amazing.

We didn’t miss normal food. We didn’t miss television.

Social media, by the way, followed us everywhere.

But in the end… and honestly…

Apparently, we immediately needed luxury again the moment we got back.

Within a few hours, we were fully back in our spoiled lives.

Somewhere, I feel a little ashamed of that.

Because those five days taught me that having less actually feels surprisingly richer.

Less stuff.
Less noise.
More nature.
More peace.
More conversations.
More appreciation.

And strangely enough…

Of all the luxury we went back to, there is only one thing I really miss.

Bathing in the river.

That felt like true freedom.

Now back to everyday life.

France – Morocco. On a big screen. In Paramaribo. With a cold beer.

But somewhere, I already long to be back at that river.

What would you choose if you really had to choose?

Luxury or simplicity?

I’m going to explore that for myself in the coming period.
