Put a few tough entrepreneurs in the middle of nature and suddenly there’s a lot to learn.
Of course, everyone still has an opinion on how things should be done, which somehow makes the whole experience even more entertaining.
I’m in Scotland right now with my old university friends, who are now entrepreneurs too.
Twenty years ago, we started studying together in Rotterdam. Now we’re here, celebrating twenty years of friendship with hiking, adventures, good food and, above all, a lot of laughter.
One minute we’re talking about business, finance or managing people.
The next, someone brings up a story from our student days that one of us would probably rather have forgotten.
Nobody is safe. 🤣
What I love about this trip is how much we learn from each other without even trying.
Someone shares a challenge, someone else recognises it, and suddenly a conversation in the middle of nature gives you a completely different perspective on something you’ve been dealing with at work.
Nature brings its own lessons too.
You have to pay attention, adapt and sometimes accept that someone else knows better.
Not always easy for a group of entrepreneurs who are used to being in charge. 😉
And humour makes all of it easier.
When you can laugh at yourself together, you can also be much more open to learning from each other.
We may be twenty years older now, with businesses and responsibilities, but put us together in Scotland and those students are still very much there.
