Why trending topics work so well on LinkedIn 🥇

From the Olympics to viral reach

06 February 2026 - Last updated: 7 May 2026 -

“Going viral is not luck. It’s understanding what people are paying attention to right now.”

If Jutta Leerdam wins, I’ll make a post about entrepreneurship and falling and getting back up. Then I’ll definitely go viral! ⛸️

The Olympic Winter Games start today
and you can already see it happening on LinkedIn.

I already have gold at home, so I’m going to melt it down to create the medal.

Whether that will actually work, I’m not sure. My steel goldbars may not melt that easily.

So the medal might also end up metallic colored.

But that doesn’t matter, because the winner is always first! 🏆

Sounds like a Johan Cruijff quote I just invented on the spot.

How does it work?

🇳🇱 If someone from the Dutch team wins, you create a post linking it to your business or vision.
📈 Big chance your reach suddenly explodes.
👩‍💻 Send your post to me via DM.
🏅 The winner gets the medal.

Oh yes, I can also win myself.

So do your best. I promise I won’t cheat 🤓

I see it every single time:

When you connect your content to current events, suddenly everyone starts watching.

Just make sure it doesn’t become a cliché or an obvious open door.

Create your own angle.

Don’t push your proposition.

Here’s your first tip already:

If Jutta wins, connect it to entrepreneurship and falling and getting back up.

Maybe obvious, but surprisingly effective.

This will probably also be my own post.

So now you know already 😉

The game comes down to four things:

• The angle
• The hook
• The story
• The visual

By the way, I’m going for video.

Is it always about going viral? No.

But this is an exercise.

If you understand why current events work, you can later apply the same principle inside your own market and industry developments.

Good luck everyone!

I AM READY 👑 BRING IT ON
