We’re leaving Kuusamo for Helsinki in an ATR 72 propeller plane, together with my amazing new friend Nele Vermeire.
Bye bye, Finland. 🇫🇮
Look at that propeller.
And look at that view.
We’ve literally just taken off. The seatbelt signs are still on, you can feel every movement of the plane and the sun is shining over the hills, endless forests and the land of a thousand lakes.
After such an intense, emotional and, honestly, life-changing experience, reality slowly starts to kick in again.
You look down at the land you’ve enjoyed so much over the past few days and watch it slowly disappear beneath you.
It gives you such a strange perspective on life.
Down there, we experienced every hill, every forest, every lake, every freezing morning, every long hike, every laugh and every emotional moment one by one.
And now, from up here, you suddenly see it all as one.
The landscape.
The horizon.
The curve of the earth.
The places we walked through.
You’re literally saying goodbye to every part of the experience while, at the same time, finally seeing the whole picture.
Leaving somewhere by plane always makes me a little emotional.
But somehow, it feels even more intense in an ATR 72.
Sitting next to that huge propeller, feeling every movement of the plane while watching the entire adventure slowly disappear beneath you.
Who else almost goes into a trance while staring out of an airplane window?
It’s like watching the whole experience flash by one last time.
