Only twice a year do they jump from 5,000 meters at Skydive Teuge.
That is seriously high for a skydive.
In fact, it’s around the altitude where commercial aircraft, including Boeing passenger planes, can already be flying when approaching or departing airports.
That’s one of the reasons these jumps are so unusual.
And of course, they organized the whole thing especially for me.
Just kidding.
I was simply incredibly lucky that we booked on a day when a lot of professional skydivers were jumping from 5,000 meters too.
But imagine sitting in that plane, surrounded by people who do this all the time, while you keep climbing higher and higher toward an altitude they normally don’t even jump from.
I was unbelievably excited and seriously scared at the same time.
And then there was my own cameraman flying right next to us, while Wim de Gier was holding my hand during the freefall.
Apparently, even flying in a formation like this during a tandem jump is pretty unusual.

More than a minute of falling through the sky.
A normal tandem freefall is often around 30 seconds, so having that much time up there felt completely surreal.
The horizon.
The speed.
The noise.
People flying around us.
And that strange feeling of being completely free for a moment.
What an experience.
