I got in touch with Bert van Ravenswaaij, the Managing Director of the Royal Dutch Mint, through LinkedIn. What an incredibly cool place. And what a story. What a history.
This company has been around for over 450 years. They were already minting coins for the Netherlands before the Netherlands even existed. It all began in 1567, during the reign of Philip II of Spain.
It’s truly impressive to see how coins are minted. How metal and precious metals are sourced, processed, and ultimately transformed into something tangible with value, history, and meaning.
And perhaps most remarkable of all: they make coins for countries all over the world.
I got to see so much. More than I can share here 😉
But believe me: this was incredibly impressive.
By the way, something many people don’t know: you can also have custom-made coins made here. For special occasions, anniversaries, business relationships, or as a symbol of connection and a story.
And that was a perfect segue into personal branding. Of course, we also talked at length about LinkedIn, reach, and networking. Bert gets a lot out of LinkedIn and is a real fan of it. It was great to discover that overlap and share success stories.
My eagle eyes certainly got their fill. I even got to feel some precious metals here and there… and that’s always something special 🏅
I bought the Curaçao and Johan Cruijff special coins right away 😄
Is it a good investment? Probably! Especially if the Netherlands wins the World Cup!
Bert didn’t want to give me any advice on that 😉 But I believe in it.
