How Far Outside Your Comfort Zone Would You Go?

Sometimes you only discover what you’re capable of when there’s no other option but to keep going.

You discover what you’re capable of by doing it.

Would you climb this?

For some, this would be pretty close to a nightmare.

For others, it’s sport, adrenaline, challenge and something to work towards.

Last week I went hiking in Finland with Outspire – Creativity Hikes. The hike was intense and beautiful. Finland is incredible. But it definitely wasn’t easy.

And strangely enough, the hiking itself wasn’t even the hardest part.

Surviving the evenings and nights was.

No showers. No electricity. No couch. No beds.

I slept in an open wooden cabin during freezing nights, on nothing more than an airbed and a sleeping bag.

I washed myself in freezing rivers and lakes.

It was tough.

But I learned so much from it.

That we are capable of much more than we think.

That stepping outside your comfort zone often feels impossible before you actually do it.

And then you do it.

You adapt. You keep going.

And suddenly you discover that you’re capable of things you never thought you could do.

You are.

I am.

Just like this climber.

And this Saturday, I’m challenging myself again.

I’m going skydiving with Wim de Gier.

Jumping out of a plane and falling towards the earth.

Something completely different, but definitely scary too.

I can’t wait.

Let’s see what happens.

What do you do to challenge yourself?
