Forget the algorithm. Just make great content!
That’s what I was talking about recently with Meriam Slijkerman, the best high-end business coach I know.
Because it’s incredibly easy to drive ourselves crazy trying to figure out the LinkedIn algorithm.
Especially now that LinkedIn is using AI to assess more and more content and determine what it considers valuable, what looks like AI slop and what might not belong on the platform at all.
And yes, you should understand the rules of the game.
Because sometimes one tiny detail in a photo, piece of text or video can affect how your content is distributed, even when no human would see anything wrong with it.
We see the same thing with lead generation, aggressive calls to action, AI-written content, AI-generated photos and videos, and all kinds of words and visuals that LinkedIn’s systems may react to automatically.
So yes, it’s useful to know.
But then you should forget about it again.
Because ultimately, great content is still about people.
It’s about saying something that makes someone feel something, laugh, think or recognise themselves in what you’re saying.
You can know every trick in the algorithm’s playbook, but if your content is boring, nobody is going to care.
And I believe the opposite is true too: if you consistently create great content that your network genuinely values, you’ll win in the long run.
So yes, learn how the algorithm works.
But don’t create content for it.
Create content for people.
Because marketing isn’t just about what you say.
It’s about how you say it.
