What Does 21°C Have to Do with Content? ☀️

Good content doesn’t start with what you want to say. It starts with what’s happening in your audience, your market and the world around them.

Don’t start with yourself. Start with your market.

What a day!

21°C on October 7th. I might as well fire up the BBQ or head to the beach.

The climate is changing dramatically!

Just kidding. That’s not actually what I want to talk about.

Although it is true. Haha.

We just had another Content Challenge session. It was great to spend some time creating content with 40 people while enjoying the sunshine.

Well, I was the one in the sunshine. 🙂

Hopefully, you’ll all get to enjoy it too.

And actually, that’s a pretty good example of what a good content strategy is all about.

You want to inspire, inform, stay relevant and, most importantly, show that you understand what is happening right now for people and in your market.

So start with your message.

Your statement.

The story you want to tell.

No buzzword-heavy titles. No vague introduction that takes three paragraphs before anyone understands what you’re actually talking about.

Tell it the way you would tell a friend over a BBQ.

That’s storytelling to me.

Don’t make it more complicated than it needs to be. Just tell a story that people can recognize and that actually has something to say.

But for that, you need to know what people care about.

Today, that’s easy.

It’s 21°C in October and almost everyone in the Netherlands has noticed.

But what’s happening in your market?

Do you know what your customers are talking about?

What challenges they’re facing?

Which developments they’re watching?

What they’re worried about?

Which innovations are changing their business?

And here’s the important part: that’s very different from knowing which solution you want to sell.

Your solution usually isn’t what the market is thinking about.

Their problem is.

So don’t start with yourself.

Start with your market.

Understand what’s on people’s minds and create content around that.

Your content will automatically become more relevant.

And relevant content gets engagement.

Thanks everyone for today, and good luck with creating your content!
