On to 42 km 🏃‍♂️

Six months ago, I started running. Next week, I’m running my first marathon, for my son Thor and the AutismeFonds.

Having a point on the horizon makes it so much easier to keep going.

I just ran 20 km for the first time in my life.

Next week, I’m running the Amsterdam Marathon, one day after I turn 40! 🏃‍♂️

The first 15 km felt fine.

The last 5 were a different story.

My legs started cramping and every kilometre took more effort.

But I finished.

And now I’m working towards those 42 km.

I’m doing this for my son Thor and the AutismeFonds.

That gives this challenge a meaning that goes far beyond my finish time.

Having a point on the horizon makes such a difference.

You know what you’re working towards, why it matters and why you should put your shoes on again on a day when staying home feels much easier.

It’s actually the same when you’re building your personal brand and your network.

You don’t build trust and relationships in a week or a month.

It takes 6 to 12 months, often longer, of showing up, starting conversations and following up.

The effort adds up, even when you don’t see the results straight away.

I started running six months ago and, honestly, I’m still not 100% marathon-ready.

In my head, I’m about 80% there and hoping my mindset can carry the remaining 20%. 😉

Those last few kilometres reminded me that I still have plenty to learn.

But I’ve already done more than I ever have before.

The last time I felt anywhere close to this fit, I was 25.

Now, at 39, I feel fitter than I’ve ever been.

Whatever happens on marathon day:

those six months have already taken me further than I imagined.

Now let’s go for 42 km.

For Thor and the AutismeFonds! 💪
