Work-life balance doesn’t exist… or does it?

Why balance is not a fixed formula

“Balance is not about hours. It’s about energy.”

What is a good work-life balance?

A difficult question.

On one hand, you don’t want a 9-to-5 mentality. You want to give your best. Be better than the rest. Be flexible. Finish your work. Go the extra mile.

And of course: be successful.

But on the other hand, you also want rest.
You want to be home on time for your family. Do something fun. Work out. Watch a series on the couch. Relax.

The truth?

It’s a thin line. And it’s different for everyone.

As an entrepreneur, I see it like this: if you enjoy what you do, work often doesn’t feel like work. So make sure your work stays enjoyable.

At the same time, entrepreneurship comes with periods where work takes up more space than personal life. Sometimes, that’s simply necessary.

But keep listening to your body. Take rest when needed. Protect your balance. No one benefits from burnout.

On the other hand: don’t give up too quickly. Sometimes you need to push through.

Personally, I’ve been working around 12 hours a day on average for about 7 years. I’m used to it. But in the end, it’s not about the hours, it’s about the content. When I enjoy something, I can easily spend 16 hours a day on it.

And personal life?

I work from home two days a week and I’m always home during the weekend. For me, that feels like a good balance.
