A tree grows in two directions.
Up and down.
And that is exactly how success works.
Everybody loves the part that grows upwards.
The leaves.
The fruit.
In business, that’s the revenue, the clients, the followers, the team, the recognition and the freedom.
Everybody wants that.
But far fewer people love the other direction.
The roots.
Because roots grow in the dark.
They push through dirt, stones, pressure and resistance. Nobody sees them. Nobody applauds them. And for a long time, it can look like they’re producing absolutely nothing.
That’s the investment.
The years of learning. The ideas that fail. The money you put in before you ever see a return. The long days. The uncomfortable conversations. The discipline. The content nobody watches. The calls that go nowhere. The relationships you build long before there’s ever a deal.
People love success.
They just don’t always love investing in it.
They want the fruit without growing the roots.
But that’s not how nature works.
And it’s not how business works either.
The bigger you want to grow above the ground, the stronger you need to grow underneath it.
So when it feels like you’re putting in a lot and getting very little back, that doesn’t mean nothing is happening.
You’re building roots.
And eventually, if you keep investing in them, people will only notice the part above the surface.
They’ll call it success.
