“You are really a sales guy,” Lotta said.
After breakfast, I offered to do the dishes for everyone.
The washing-up area was quite far away, so there was no real reason for everyone to walk all the way there separately.
At the same time, I asked Jeff to make my lunch.
And someone else to make my coffee.
Then Lotta noticed something: somehow, I was getting quite a lot in return for doing the dishes.
“Yes,” I said. “And now I can ask anyone for anything for the rest of the day. They owe me.”
We laughed. Of course I was joking.
But there’s actually a beautiful truth in it.
When you make sacrifices, help people and genuinely give, you’ll often get something back at some point.
Not because people owe you.
But because gratitude and goodwill can create something really valuable.
And I think sales works exactly the same way.
I give my time.
I share tips.
I listen.
I help.
Sometimes I make a sale.
Sometimes I don’t.
But even when I don’t, I may have created a fan who remembers me, talks about me or refers a client to me somewhere down the line.
Sales isn’t only about asking.
It starts with giving.
Give and you shall receive.
That’s life.
Thanks, Outspire, and thanks to this lovely group. ❤️
