I hear this regularly, but then I always tell this story. I’m curious what you think 😉
The algorithm shows what LinkedIn thinks you find interesting. So it could be that if you come across many Facebook-like posts on your timeline, you might be looking at them too often and for too long. LinkedIn sees from the dwell time (how long you stay on the post) that you find the post interesting. Then LinkedIn indexes all such posts and shows you even more of them.
In a way, you are trapped in the algorithm because LinkedIn takes you through this funnel, and suddenly it seems like you see nothing else. Just click away quickly and spend more time on interesting and substantial posts.
So, you have control over what you see on your timeline. If you really don’t find something interesting, you can click on the 3 dots at the top right of the post and choose 👁️ Not interested. Then you won’t see posts like that for a while.
We all recognize that you tend to keep watching if you see a bad post or ad 🙈 Cringe-worthy videos, photos, and stories grab our attention. Besides, we are all human and secretly enjoy those spontaneous, personal stories!
In my next video, I’ll tell you how to combine it smartly. Because if you can link current events and your personality to your professional knowledge, then you’ve hit the sweet spot!
Enjoy! 👀
