From screen time to recovery time

Why the best entrepreneurial insights happen outdoors

18 December 2025 -

“The best entrepreneurs don’t just build companies they build energy.”

After seven years of working 14-hour days behind my desk non-stop… it was time for something different.

Thanks to my inspiring brother Maarten, I started hiking.
Through LinkedIn, I met Olivier and that’s when the real story began.

Two years ago, I joined my first hike. Now I go as often as I can.
And believe it or not: these days, I also step into the boxing ring twice a week with Biondi.

Without realizing it, I started adopting more and more of my little brother’s lifestyle.
Thanks for the inspiration, Maarten 🙏

You know what’s funny?
I started hiking just for fun.
To get away from the screen, to clear my head.
But these hikes also include coaching from Jeff and that turned out to be pure gold.
At first, I didn’t go for the coaching. Now I see how incredibly valuable it is.
The insights I’ve gained there? I apply them every single day.
You’re never too old to learn.

And that’s what this post is about.

As an entrepreneur, you’re always “on.”
You’re pushing, eating in a rush, sitting too much, and your brain is constantly in overdrive.

Everyone thinks I’m always cheerful and most of the time, I am.
But honestly? When I get home, I’m often mentally drained.
I need at least an hour to feel present again.

After seven years, I realized:
Growth isn’t just about working harder it’s about living more consciously.

Nature forces you to slow down.
Your body shows you your limits.
And by literally creating distance, you get your best ideas.

Tip: Schedule “outdoor time” into your week like it’s a business meeting.
Not optional.
Your brain recovers, your stress drops, and your creativity skyrockets.

I truly believe:
The best entrepreneurs don’t just build companies they build energy.
