My first vlog in 2000, and why it explains everything

Stop chasing talent, and start building consistency.

“It’s not talent, it’s how long you keep going that determines where you end up.”

I started vlogging in 2000 🎥

Looking back now, I sometimes think: maybe I was one of the first vloggers in the Netherlands 😄 Not the most successful one unfortunately… but definitely early.

People often ask where my passion for social media comes from. The honest answer? I was 14 when I started 👶 So it goes way back. My dad had one of the first digital cameras 📸 It wasn’t even mine yet, I got my own a few years later. But those first recordings, with an old computer in the background 💻, that was the beginning.

And it’s funny how you look at your own story later on. For a long time, I felt like my dreams didn’t really work out. I wanted to be a rock singer 🎤 Then an artist 🎨 And at some point I thought maybe I should study economics and go for a corporate career 💼 None of that really happened.

But if you’re honest… vlogging was there before all of that. My very first passion eventually became my work 🔄 Not as a famous YouTuber or influencer, but in essence, it never really changed.

Together with Maarten, I seriously gave it a try. Two years of vlogging 🎬 And that’s when we realized what it actually takes. Being “on” all the time ⚡ Filming everything 🎥 Sharing your entire life 📱 Giving up your privacy 🔒 That’s not a hobby, that’s full-time commitment. And honestly… it was tougher than expected.

Still, it’s interesting how things work out. Without even realizing it, you grow towards what always suited you 🌱 Not because you planned it perfectly, but because you kept trying.

That’s really all I did. Everything I tried 🚀, I kept going with 💪 Nothing more, nothing less.

Sometimes people say I have a lot of talent ⭐ But I actually see it differently. I think I’m pretty average at a lot of things. The only difference is that I just keep going a bit longer than most people ⏳ And that alone is often enough.

Even with “average talent”, you can go far if you don’t stop 🔥 And that’s exactly how it works on LinkedIn 💼 and in business 📈 Keep posting, keep learning and keep improving.

You get better over time.
And success slowly starts to follow ✨

And honestly… I never thought I’d use these photos in a business blog 🤣

Show me the magic in real life 🪄
