Control your data, strengthen your profile

LinkedIn and AI: why managing your data is key to professional success

17 November 2025 -

"In an age of automation, human awareness may be your greatest differentiator."

Last week, I shared a post about the new direction LinkedIn is heading: the use of user data for AI training.

One particular comment under that post was widely shared:
“Your warning about data use for AI training is timely. Being mindful of privacy settings is becoming an essential part of professional social media management.”

That remark hits the core of where we are right now.

Social media are no longer just platforms for visibility and connection. They have evolved into data-driven ecosystems where every profile, post, and interaction is potentially used for machine learning and algorithmic optimization. LinkedIn is no exception in fact, as a professional platform, it plays a crucial role.

That’s why it’s important to stay in control of what we share, how we appear, and most importantly: what others and systems are allowed to do with our data.
That means not only checking your settings now and then, but also thinking critically about:

  • What kind of content you post
  • What access you grant to third-party apps
  • Whether you allow your data to be used for AI training
  • What your network sees, reads, and may reuse about you

Being professionally present on LinkedIn goes beyond posting great content. It also requires awareness of digital safety, transparency, and data use.

The good news is: LinkedIn offers tools for this. But it all starts with your insight, your choices, and your conscious use of the platform.

Because in a time of increasing automation, human awareness may be your strongest competitive edge.
