Can sales and marketing take a summer break?

Why Summer is an Opportunity for Your Business!

07 August 2024 -

"Scaling down your sales and marketing in the summer is a missed opportunity and often unnecessary. Scale up in the summer!"

Summer is almost over! Before you know it, it will be September again, and we want to hit the ground running with a full agenda from September 1st. If you want to restart after the summer, now is the time!

Summer is always a challenging time for marketing and sales. It’s cucumber time! 🥒

On one hand, some companies really slow down. They go on vacation, and their marketing and sales budgets are cut in half. The result is that everyone can recharge, but not much happens. You get a dip in your revenue, which you’ll need to make up for the rest of the year. You can plan for this, and if the season affects your business, you’ll have to deal with it.

But critically ask yourself if your business really needs to come to a standstill all summer. We advise most of our clients to put in twice as much effort so that business doesn’t slump in the summer.

It’s quite significant. For some people, summer starts at the end of May, so you could be doing less business in June, July, and August. That’s 25% of the year, and thus 25% of your revenue.

Continuing to push in summer has 2 advantages:

1️⃣ Increased Revenue:

If you put in twice as much effort in the summer, you’ll see that there are always companies and people around, and the summer recess isn’t that bad. It’s a missed opportunity to increase your revenue. Your competitors are on vacation, so every prospect who answers is yours 😎 and the people who answer have time for you.

2️⃣ Accessibility of C-level Decision Makers:

Real C-level decision makers are so busy throughout the year that you never get a hold of them. Some people are just quite unreachable. The nice thing is that these very busy people do spend a few weeks on a beach bed in the summer, and you can suddenly reach them directly via LinkedIn. We see an increase in responses from C-level connections for ourselves and our clients. Usually, they respond that we can schedule a meeting in September, and sometimes they want to talk right away because they have little to do, and for these types, things never completely stop.

So, you can of course enjoy your well-deserved rest and take a few weeks off, but scaling down your sales and marketing in the summer is a missed opportunity and often not necessary. My advice: scale up in the summer! 📈
